SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (October 31, 2009) North Wilkesboro Speedway, a cornerstone in stock car racings foundation and a track that occupies a special place in grassroots racing fans hearts, will reopen next year with a coveted date in the USARacing Pro Cup Championship Series, it was announced Saturday during the drivers meeting prior to the series season finale Strutmasters.com 250 at South Boston Speedway.

Scheduled for Oct. 3, 2010, the race will be on the traditional fall weekend that for many years hosted NASCARs Sprint Cup Series from NASCARs inception in 1949 until the track closed after its fall race in 1996. Its two Cup dates were then moved to New Hampshire and Texas. But with the dawn of the 2010 racing season, the 0.625-mile track will again assume its rightful place in the stock car racing community.

We are extremely pleased to be the first national touring racing series to return to the true roots of stock car racing, USARacing Managing Partner Larry Camp said. We know the people of Wilkes County and the surrounding area of North Carolina have missed stock car racing on this storied track.

All of us at the USARacing Pro Cup Series are proud to be a part of this rebirth. Personally, I know the Staley family, Junior Johnson and the many stock car racing purists will mark Oct. 3, 2010, as a red letter day in the sport. I know Benny Parsons would be extremely proud of (his wife) Terri for helping return stock car racing to the county that he and his family so dearly loved.

In addition to Mrs. Parsons, the new ownership group consists of Alton McBride Sr., Alton McBride Jr., Dave Ehret, John Burwell and Bosco Lowe.

With the addition of North Wilkesboro Speedway, the USAR Pro Cup Series schedule contains five tracks that played key roles in NASCARs first 50 years. The series travels to Hickory Motor Speedway on May 1, Rockingham Speedway on May 15, South Boston Speedway on June 12 and for the season finale on Nov. 6, and Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 11. Gresham Motorsports Park, site of the USAR Pro Cup Series season opener on March 27 and a Championship Series race on Oct. 23, is on the site of the old Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, Ga., which hosted NASCAR Cup races in the late 1960s.

well with both tours closed out now what we need for 10 in racing whats your tack
hear mods will have some tv 10
cwse gone new name dont know . its hard for us so many names hard for us to establish fan base with mane changes every few years .

Busch North Reunion - Good Times

What a great time we had at the Busch North reunion. It was well worth the $60 and the trip from NC.

Former and current drivers that showed up included Dave Dion, Brad Leighton, Mike Olsen, Andy Santerre, Dick McCabe, Dean Crystal, Barney McRae, Glen Brehio, Scott Deware, Carl Houston and Jimmy Fields. Stub Fadden was represented by his wife, Charlotte who brought along three huge photo albums of pictures to share.

Former and current officials in attendance included Chris Boals, Ken and Phyliss Farrington, Ron Bennett, Dave Brown AKA Bubba, Dave Baker, Lori Sampson, Cheryl Plowman, Gerry and Roxanne Craig, Donita and Jim St. John, Lisa Brice and a few others but I can't remember all the names. Donita showed up in full Busch North uniform - it brought back so many wonderful memories and looked awesome. Lori Sampson wore her uniform top as well and brought a couple scrapbooks of Bunk and the golf tournaments.

Other notables in attendance were Steve and Peg Griswold, Keith and Shelia Lamell, Roger Dion and Deanna, though she wasn't recognizable at first without the orange shirt on, Alvin Fadden, Melissa Sampson, Andy Cusak, George Campbell, Fish, former photographer Tom Gallo and so many more I can't remember them all.

Two hours in the middle of the day were carved out for anyone and everyone to speak and/or share stories. Of course there were several Dion and Leighton stories and Charlotte Fadden even apologized for calling Daytona one Monday morning much to the officials delight. Many laughs were shared as were words of wisdom.

So many friendships were renewed and everyone who was there was glad they came.

They are planning another for the 25th anniversary of the Busch North Series in two years. Plan to come as it was worth every minute and dime!

Thanks to Roxanne and Chris for all their planning and to Steve and Peg for opening their hotel to the group.
